s14 tie rod removal
ive spent way too much time trying to figure out how this comes out. i know its threaded, but no matter how hard i turn it either way, it wont break lose. can anyone give me insight as to how to seperaste the tie rod from the steering rack!?!
ive spent hours googling and searched tr, only to find nothing. i know its probably really stupid easy and im just being an idiot; but i need help.

the other side is the rack
its kinda hard to explain. the rod has threading on the end, and it looks like it just screws into the rack. the rack itself doesnt spin when i put force on the rod. it doesnt do anything but hurt my knuckles apparently when they hit things.

tak is on the right track. The inner part of the inner rod is locked on. This lock is merely a metal tab bent down on each of the 4 flat sides of the inner tie rod. Take a peek in an FSM if my description is no help.

Just looked in the FSM. Here are some shots of installation and removal. The install picture shows that there is a locking plate on the end that gets bent down like Epstein said. FSM also calls for a thread locking compound to be applied, so you are going to have to use some force after removing the locking plate.

alright i got it done, its pretty straight forward actually. the clip inbetween the tie rod and the steering rack. take a flathead screwdriver and a hammer and pry the clip back. once thats done, get a pair of vice grips and lock them around the flat part of the tie rod. brace yourself on the car and push it as hard as you can with your leg. the left side had to go towards the back of the car, so i used the bumper. once thats broken loose it doesnt take much effort to unscrew it the rest of the way. once its seperated from the steering rack. it unscrews from the tie rod end pretty easily. if not, there is a section on the middle of the tie rod for a wrench to go around. it is a 13mm, simply unscrew it. there will be a locking nut on the threads for the tie rod, just match up the new one with the old one. installation is opposite of removal, install into the steering rack first so you can break the ball joint loose, be sure to use thread lock on the threads that go into the rack. once that side is in there, use the 13mm wrench i mentioned earlier to screw the new rod into the tie rod end, tighten, and youre done.
