what the hell is this part?
what the hell is this part?
my uncle just recently bought a 79 DATSUN 240, with a rebuilt nissan motor. I am not sure what year the motor is from but it is 6 cyl non-turbo. There is what looks like an electric motor driven turbo that feeds air from one side of the motor, over the top, and lets out on top on the intake manifold pointing straight at the injectors. It looks like it is oem but the maintenance manuals don't say jack about it. The only thing I could figure is that maybe it blows cooler air onto the injectors to keep them cool but that just sounds like a screwy idea. What is this thing and what does it do?
the fan is the intake/injector cooler...if you encounter temperatures during your drive that exceed 200 degrees (*F) the fan kicks on when you turn the car off...to keep the injectors from getting heated ( the condition name is escaping me right now for some reason) too much. and NO it doesn't count as forced induction!
