Last night i got my third exhaust ticket. Why me???
I have the usual Apex N1 exhaust. Does anybody else have the same problem? The cop told me that it wasn`t the noise but the size of the exhaust. He said it looked like a cannon. I found this a very stupid reason. I love my exhaust and paid good money for it and would hate to take it off.
Any suggestions???
I was thinking about painting it black but i dont know how it would look.

paint it black add a resonator upstream somewhere to kill some sound and if they ever bother you again fight it in court and win.

I didn't think they could give you a ticket for the SIZE of an exhaust...

I have N1 Dual. Granted, it's not cannon-style like the single, but I've personally never run into any problems with cops.

However, I found these laws applying to exhaust:

(4) No person shall drive or operate a motor vehicle propelled by an internal combustion engine equipped with a muffler, the exhaust outlet of which has been opened or widened.
(5) No person shall drive or operate a motor vehicle propelled by an internal combustion engine equipped with a muffler or exhaust system to which is attached any device which increases the noise of the expulsion of the gases from the engine or allows a flame to be ignited from the exhaust system.

 

I think you just have bad luck. I have the apexi gt-spec which is even bigger and i've never ran into any problems

What area do you live in? or where are you getting pulled at? I get harrassed all the time about it. Sometimes i get tickets most of the time i get warned and they just want to stop me. I fight the tickets and never had to pay a single one. Its still a pain in the ass though. I put like a 120 miles a day on my whip being a mobile tech so they have plenty of chances to get me but most of the time they leave me alone. I have just learned to live with it... I have neveer seen them pull a loud ass chopper though.

 

Definitely true on the Classic Car's or Domestic's never getting pulled over for "loud exhaust". It is usually only the import's they give a hard time about the exhaust. I would fight that and I also would add a resonator and I say paint it black also, but make sure you use high temperature paint. They look for any reason to pull you over - it used to be the "Your license plate light is out" excuse. Take away any reasons that they have to pull you over.

 

What areas are you getting pulled over in so I know to avoid them.

I have been trying to locate on OEM S14 muffler with the plans of putting an electric cutout right before the muffler. This could also be an option for you.

 

Well it looks like im gonna have to paint it black.
Every time i get pulled over is on Dale Mabry in between Linebaugh and Van Dyke rd.
This truly sucks coz i love the way it looks. I hate that im going to ruin it by painting black. I`m afraid is going to look nasty.
Are there any TR members from the supreme court that can helps us.

 

I think that if you powdercoated it that it wouldn't look bad at all... They must be cracking down alot lately, because I had a way too loud exhaust on my pulsar and I only ever had one warning with that car.
