It gets 3 times as much torque because it fires the pistons 3 times what a normal piston motor does, per rotation.

i have been browsing the site for quite a bit now..
thats a pretty damn awesome find! im quite interested in it..
but why did u say that this might be a new nissan motor?
i think the design is pretty damn sweet

im still curious on how the conter rotating cams work..
but it seems efficient and cheap..
i wouldnt mind it in my car! cheap fuel-economical motor

I said possible nissan motor because it could in the future be a new motor for nissan's. You never know - with as much torque that it puts out your car would use extremely less gas from stop to go I would imagine. And I don't see why it would be so difficult to fit something like that into our engine compartments. Why would there be vehicle packaging restraint issues?

It'll never make it. Read up about the Miller cycle engine and it's benefits. Then read about how many cars they put it in. Then read about how many of those cars are still on the road or in production.

Never going to be mass produced. The future of engines is away from using any type of Oil for fuel. I think they will still use the basic internal combustion engine, but change compression and sparking method to use something cheaper to burn. (similar to a diesel). Currently I am working with a few engineer buddies on a KA that runs of pure ethanol. But its still in the brainstorming process...modifications will come later this year.

Very true Rubberberner, however would it be a good idea to use a motor such as this that would produce more torque like it does? Even if they used a more economical ozone friendly source of combustion for this engine it would be good. If the ozone friendly fuel produced less combustion then it may lower the torque a bit, but this engine I believe would still perform extremely better then the normal engine design. Again just my two cents....

i think its the same idea as rotary when it came out, it revs higher and "can" produce more power than a regular 4 cyl. motor using the came amount of gas.

but this new motor is very interesting, and as someone else said, durability will be an issue, 3x the normal movement will definatly f-up some piston rings
