So I have had this happen to other cars in the past, but soon after the car crapped out. Anyway, I need to know if anyone has insight on what to check/replace in order to get past this issue. If the fuse is in, brake lights are on. I was told on my previous car that the switch just might be bad and stuck in the on position.

I wont lie, im new to "fix it yourself" but I get all the ideas really quick, I am scoutin around other sites to try and find the info... wanted to drop a line here tho.

What car?

 

do this-

-look at brake pedal
-find where switch hits the pedal (to turn off brake lights when its not being pressed down)
-look where the switch rod hits the pedal assembly...theres probably a hole there where the rubber bushing thing used to be.

-scout junkyards, head to nissan, or discount or homedepot to find something to fill it.

99% thats usually the problem. older cars the little rubber grommet gets all dried out and old and cracks and falls out. hell u might even find it on ur floor somewhere.

 

Same thing happened to me. Dan is spot on diagnosing the problem. That was the fix for me. Nissan sells the replacement part (the one's they sell look like a little lime green button), only a couple of bucks.

While you're there, just buy another one and replace the clutch one as well. That went out on me a week after the brake one!
