Default tranny trouble?

ok here we go....im driving down the street and i stick it in 5th......im accelerating....i let off the gas, and go to accelerate again, and the damn gear popped out and was just resting in the gate, i could hear the gears touching and chattering and what not, but it just like fell outa gear when i did that. Any ideas on what the hell this could be? syncros? somthing? LMK thanks

Bent gear selector forks? Ball/spring/notch wearing out? I dunno; you've found my only weakness. I'd say if it happened only once, then don't worry about it. I've half selected gears before and gotten that gear chattery noise.

Shitty gear oil is the best. Coastal non-synth ruled my WRX. Coastal synth rules my 240sx even though I'm missing about 1/2 a quart.

Your tranny is fine if it only happens once in a while. When I shift fast, I can feel the tranny spit the shifter out of gear. As long as the gear works, I could care less about the engagement. Especially 5th.
