Default SR overheating?

Hey guys i got my swap done about a week ago (s13 blacktop in a s14) and i work out in tampa. I've noticed over the last couple days that the temp guage is all over the place. a few people say that its normal but if I'm driving at a constant pace than it stays right at normal running temp. If I get in any kinda traffic it goes nuts! At first the thermostat was stuck shut so i took it out until i can get a new one. And I have a koyo radiator and a crazy fan that i run off ignition power so i know its running. So if anyone has any tips or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated!! Thanx!!

bleed coolant for air. s14 water pump does not help any more than a s13.

Do you know what a thermostat does? It regulates the water temperature. Put in a working thermostat and your car will be fine. Now you know. And, knowing is half the battle!

If you remove the thermostat completely the coolant will not be resticted and it will flow quickly. By doing this the coolant does not spend enough time in the radiator and it's temp. does not drop. More is this.

I realize that the coolant isn't getting enough time to cool completely, but I think everyone would agree that no thermostat is better than one stuck shut. The part that I dont understand is the levels that the temp. guage is reading even while I'm driving down the highway with plenty of airflow?

Epstine was right, first replace the cheapest most logical thing, that is missing. If it doesn't work right when the system is fully operational, then you can diagnose from there. Asking us what is wrong with it is like trying to figure out why your radio won't work when you don't have any speakers hooked up. If its not the thermostat, check the airflow of the E-fan (and get some decent name brand fans, the cheap ones suck).

I have the same problem but i have an S13. I tried almost everything within my budget and the only thing that has worked for me so far is a double electric fan, a ram air under the front bumper, performance radiator, lifted hood and no thermostat. I put a new thermostat in and it did the same thing. I also have a front bumper with a big opening. With all of this, it still goes up if i travel too far. Please note that i`ve had my SR for 5 years already.

What coolant temp sensor are you using? Use the stock S14 KA sensor in the S13 SR. This should solve your problems...
