If you have it down to a science, cool. If you're a normal person.. hoisting the motor or lowering the crossmember is easiest I think.

Anyone watch Horsepower TV? Every supercharger/turbo they install is done with the pan on. They use a punch, then a tap covered in grease to catch shavings. *shrug*.

a punch? Wouldnt that create some sort of gnarly, nasty ass, hole/dent? I though about just drilling it on the car with oil in the pan still to help push the shavings out and put a speaker against the bottom of the pan to collect the shavings that made it to the bottom. Then run a few quarts of oil threw it afterwords, but I decided NOT to take the untested route. Im a puss.

i would rather take the pan off, tap it. reseal the pan, which most likely needs to be done anyway, and not have ANY shavings missed by the grease covered bit.

Hey.. I know all about dropping the oil pan.. done it 3 times now. I was just stating a different way I've seen them do two or three times on different cars.

you better get to rattle can painting misc parts of the inside of your car! i hear the initiation is pretty harsh. Something like “blood rank” with “r-type” badges and other pep boy goods.

The $6,000 civic that laid down a whopping 135fwhp? Ya, their import shows have sucked. But they did a centrifugal supercharged mustang (that guy's personal car), a roots-blown big block (maybe for that other guys Chevelle?), and Gail Banks was there during a twin turbo small block install. All oil pans were done the same way. And they're pretty good about the muscle car installs, imo.
