So ya.. if you just want a six speed.. jump on Matt's VQ tranny.

The S15 6 spd is the same as a Miata 6spd and apparently is not as strong as the 5 spd small Nissan tranny.

The VQ 6spd is LARGE. From measurements it looks like I am going to have to bang out the tunnel a little bit on my S13 right where the dash suport bolts to the tunnel. Also the shifter location is WAY off. The transmission itself is about 1 inch shorter than the S13/S14 manual transmission but the cradle for the external shifter and linkage sticks back about 8-10 inches further. On my car I'm not very concerned about this because it's a race car and I will be sitting pretty far back along with moving pedals back and a big steering spacer.

Here's a pic of the tranny with measuring tape across the top.

That's 40 inches from bellhousing mating to tip of shifter cradle. Shifter comes up at about 39.5 and the stock tranny has the shifter at around 29-30 inches. Being an external linkage, you can certainly shorten it, but you can not get the shifter in the stock location unless you make a shifter relocator. PM me for an easy way to do that.
