Default KA Crew: Upper Intake Removal Guidance

So, at the end of the day, Jerry had installed Silkroad coilovers, full Battle Version rear suspension.

Adrian did shocks/struts, control arms, subframe spacers, etc

I spent the entire day removing and installing an upper intake manifold :bbb:

Anyways, for future reference, there's no need to remove the bottom plenum, simply remove the 2 studs used to mate w/ the upper half. It will slide out. I had the bottom portion unbolted to give me some free play.

Full write-up/pics on intake manifod experience here

Jesse

PS - Question: Is there a difference between S13/S14 water temp sensors for the cockpit gauges? I broke the metal connector tab so I grabbed a sensor and clip from my S13 motor. I have one in my spare 96 motor in case they are indeed different.

woot woot!

glad i could help. but was thinking, without unbolting the bottom half, there may not be room to get vice grips on like we did. so slotting the stud and using a straight slot may be the trick.

Well, with no surprise, I have a vacuum leak somewhere.

Disconnected the TPS, turned the idle screw all the way in and revs are at 750. Car idles at 850 w/ 580mmHg vacuum (23 inHg).

I'll do the basics first:
1. Visual Inspection
2. Retighten all bolts
3. Squeeze lines one-by-one with needle-nose pliers
4. Redo gasket on IACV

The stuff we do sometimes...

Looking for the vacuum leak, I did all those things I listed - couldn't solve it.

So, I sprayed a bunch of carb cleaner, trying to pinpoint the leak - nothing, no sign of the carb cleaner entering the engine...

I'll be hooking up an OBDII scanner today to see if it's sensor related. The S13 ECU in my S14 doesn't show any codes...

I'm gonna start checking the exhaust side, specifically the WG. There's a bad leak there, perhaps the EBC/WG/compressor vacuum lines there are going...

I'm saying to myself, why bother waste time looking for this leak, I should just expedite my engine build purchasing and be done w/ this engine...

The leak is annoying, revs stay high and don't like to fall quickly. The little things kill me sometimes.

See you guys Sat!
