so im +ka now
MaxType is KA +3! I have 2 S13 DOHCs now, once the body kit is on and painted this weekend, I'll start researching on my buildup.
So far, I'd like to start w/ the landspeed racing kit (minus the Wiseco pistons/Ross rings):
Complete Gasket Set
Copper Head Gasket (to 30 psi)
WISECO Pistons
(89.5, 90, 90.5 and 9-1 compression) or
(89.5, 90, 90.5 and 10.5-1 compression)
(89.5 and 8.5-1 compression)
ROSS Stock Bore 89mm Pistons available
(add $100 to kit price for ROSS Pistons )
ROSS Performance Rings
Performance Wrist Pins
TOGA HP Main Bearings
TOGA HP Rod Bearings
Thrust Washers
Expansion Plugs
I know the CP pistons are top notch but I'd like to research the Supertech High-Performance 8.5:1CR Coated Racing Pistons from www.KA24DE.com
I'm gonna have the block, stock rods cryotreated and add ARP studs.
Let's all hook up while we build our KAs!!!

we all know ka's have issues witht he back cylinders heating up.
we also know that the water pump has the same kind of design as the sr.
we also know that the design of the headgasket with the coolant passages is a little bit of a hold up for the fluid also.
the garage 803 spl mods would eliminate all of those issues.

)iirc, i want to say swirl pot sounds something like a machining done to head ports or valves...not sure. gonna go google and read up!
jesse - yeah, i'd like to have my car up and running by new year's, and hopefully we can start our block buildups in the spring together. there is a group buy on ARP head and main studs on ka-t.org right now, saves you about $60, except im low on funds from hurricane damages and etc.
matt - i'll definately talk to you and jeff and scott and get some inputs about small mods such as the oil pump shimming and the mods for helping the coolant flow in the back of the block. (i did notice on my spare motor that those ports are damn small)
are you keeping your other tranny?

i'm trying to research whether those phosphate coated supertech pistons are any good. i've heard decent stuff about them but not on KA's yet. the price is right there with the CP's, but i'm just trying to find out whether the phosphate coating actually holds up for any good amount of time or if its just BS that burns off after 1000 miles. also, i'm looking to get that landspeed thing too, of course without the wiseco's (and im upgrading my rods while im at it for safe measure), probably going to pick up the timing kit as well. let me know if you want to sell one of those s13 motors. my s14 head i have is nasty and i kinda made mistakes taking it apart since originally i only wanted it to learn on.

2. Engines are at the shop, no trannys though, I'll keep you in mind if I sell one of them. So you can't drive your S14 right now? If that's the case, then you can take one.
3. I'm thinking - why go w/ the supertechs if I can simply cryo treat a set of CPs...
4. What's the rationale behind a brand new timing chain kit? Shouldn't new tensioners be good enough?
Rationale = It's only about $100, and can/will save you a day worth of time replacing it later, and possibly an engine if it lets go later.

Well, one can purchase items individually from the kit ($230). Question is, which other parts aside the tensioners are worth buying to prolong engine life:
Cam Gear 13024-53F00 $22
Crank Gear 13021-53J00 $9
Lower Chain 13028-5B600(53F01) $19
Upper Chain 13028-53F11 $25
Upper Tensioner 13070-4E101(53F00) $39
Lower Tensioner 13070-AD503(53F11) $55
Lower RH Rail 13091-53F01 $65
Lower LH Rail 13085-1E401 $19

Prolong engine life. You guys are great
You expect 500-550whp engines to last for a long time? Haha. I'd be surprised to get 20k miles out of one, if you're going to run it hard often.

Why do big rods if only going to 350 then ? :-0
rods break because of RPM. KA's don't make power up top regardless.
