Almost every KA that is ~10 years old needs it's front and rear main seals replaced, as well as the valve cover gasket. Past that, it's not too often that they get bad valve guide seals, I suppose people that beat the living hell out of them will wear them out quicker, combined with not changing your oil ever, but my motor burns / consumes no oil at all, and everyone knows it's NOT exactly the healthiest KA out there. (only 150whp / 160Ttq)

pour some brake fluid in the oil. that'll seal it up.. hahaha
ive always been a conventional oil guy. but then again, i beat the shit out of my motors and the valve gides do leak. now jamies car is starting to leak oil, so its seal replacement time

I'm using 10w30 Royal Purple. No leaks at all since I put it in my '97 at around 80k miles, almost 10k miles later.
ps... Royal Purple tastes like grape cool-aid... jk haha.

good enough for rotarys at who knows how many rpm for who knows how long-- good enough for any engine!!
plus a quart or two helps to keep the lifters quiet on the 'ol dsm
also-- it makes it easier to pour when its so thick hehe

i agree that senthetics are better than conventioal oil, but when you have a motor that leaks, burns, and consumes oil and you change it every 2-3k miles it actually doesn't make sence to me to use synthetic. I use the 20w50 cause i beat on my cars and want that extra protection. especially in the hot summer months the 20w50 helps keep the oil pressure up where it needs to be. and with high milage engines i wouldn't use anything else but castrol.
