Default KA Engine Survival Tip

Running out of projects on the car, I finally decided to pull the timing chain guide.

It should've had priority over 95% of the mods I've done. If it ever broke, I had no one but myself to blame. The inside of the vavle cover was evidently worn.

It's cracked, as deep as 3mm at two points (I tried attaching the file but no luck):

Removal of the top timing chain guide is recommended by Nissan.

Nissan declared this an unnecessary item and removed it from inventory. Not sure it there's a TSB on it...

Jesse

PS - total job takes about 15min, less if you don't have a STB.

So it's not needed at all eh? Guess I'll have to see about doing it in the next week or so. Glad I downloaded the FSMs haha. Thanks.

i dont think there is an upper guide on SOHCs. but whether there is or not, its:

take off valve cover
remove 2 12mm(?) screws holding plate that is above timing chain between the frontmost 2 camshaft journals caps
replace valve cover

done.
