Mobil for engine oil, use K&N Oil Filter or similar quailty. I think Mattback said Vavoline makes a good gear oil, non syntetic(sp).
I use Valvoline 10w30 in my SR. Seems to work well thus far along with the obligitory K&N oil filter.
My own ghetto backyard testing has shown that K&N filters have superior construction. This means no cardboard valves. Only Purolator and Motorcraft (Ford filters made by Purolator) share this feature. Most modern filters are rebranded Frams with cardboard valves that break down. I recently cut apart a Motorcraft filter off of an 03 Cobra and compared it to a cut K&N and it looked very similer. Long story short, K&N first due to the 1" nut for easy removal, Purolator second only due to the nut. Never Fram or Mobil 1 (another Fram rebrand).
Synthetic oil or not depends on if you have a turbo car or n/a. I have a turbo car and it seems to like the mineral oil that I dump every 2000 miles. Synthetic oil seems to be thinner (and as thus adds HP due to less viscosity) and adds hp to n/a cars or cars that were designed with this in mind. For the seals in turbo cars, I am of the belief that synthetic oil is too thin and will case the car to burn oil much like it does in high revving b-series Hondas.
These are just merely my suggestions/experiances. Others have had different experiances...but after 15+ cars, this is what I have found out. Good luck!

Mobil 1 is NOT a fram rebrand. it is in fact, a bosch clone, but with a synthetic filter element.

Regardless of if Matt's research and my tired ass research agree, we both agree on K&N as being a good solid filter.
I would use Mobil 1 mineral oil in 10w 30 if I could find it for my SR, but wind up using Valvoiline of the same specs in mineral oil. Didn't know if that information I conveyed was clear.
