Default S14 Electric Fan wiring

Hello

I have recently installed a "16 electric fan on my 96 240sx and for awhile i had the fan wired directly wire to the battery but had to keep dissconnecting it very time i turn the car off. Well that got old and annoying really quick so I thought about using a switch but didn't want the button and having to remeber to turn it on and off, plus I hear the engine has to be kept a certain temperature for maxiuam performance. So I came across this link http://240sx.org/links/installs/efans/index.html, read it a few times and still don't really get the whole fan relay thing.
First there are 2 Fan relays, 1 Lo and one Hi according to the top of my fuse box cover. According to the pictures on the link I would be messing with the Lo relay, but what does the Hi relay do? Anyhow it says to remove the green/blue wire and tuck it away from harms reach. The nafter that I have no idea what to do. It says to route a wire in the place of that wire, and also to ground out a wire?

Anyone have a diagram or some advice? Right now I ride with the a/c button always on because the + side of the fan is attached to the + slot of the plug of the a/c condensor
Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions.

ok...whe it says "route a wire in the place of that wire"...they're talking about comming from the underside of the fuse box, and connecting it to the underside of the relay. they have pix somewhere on 240sx.org....i know i saw them a few times, try looking again, but they may have recently changed it. and the wire you have to ground is the negative wire from the fan (usually black).

Alright so I'll ground out the black wire from the fan, but where does the + side of the electric fan connect to?? Is that the wire that I route throught the underside of the fuse box? IS the power wire of the fan replacing the green/blue wire of the relay?
Has anyone hooked up thier electric fan this way, or is there a better way to do this?
Thanks again for the help

For my dual 12" fans, I tapped into the Low Fan relay. I didn't follow those 240sx.org instructions but my install sounds the same. There's 4 slots on the top side. With a multimeter, see which slots provide power w/ ignition key in the OFF position. Then, check which provide power with the key in the ACC position. The latter is the one you want to tap into (fan on only with ACC or car on).

Pop the relay out, run the wire from undernreath the fuse box, tap into wire, solder, reassemble.

What's the amperage load of that fan of yours? Remember that the relay is rated for 30amps so if you have the OEM fan still, make sure you don't overload it.

I'll be in town soon, I'll show you if you don't want to mess w/ it.

Jesse

PS - I hope you have a KA b/c the above is not true on the SRs I've worked on.

I'm not gonna spend money for that, I'll save the $ and car for the big ones like Road Atlanta.

PM w/ the date/time of the event and perhaps I'll meet you there & wire it before you slide.

Jesse

Thanks. I will look for you. I'll be in a White S14.
BTW know of anyone with and extra set of 5 lug wheels and tires, just need 2, that will fit my S14? I have about $50 to my name after registration, but I'll only need them for that day, pretty much just need and extra set of drift tires
