Question Engine tapping when car is off

like the tapping is comming from the engine bay after i turn the car off. im not sure if it is an issue with the engine cooling system, or if it is something more serous. ive had numerous people tell me numerous things. someone told me that it may be a sticky valve (makes sense). another guy told me that it was my oil pump (kinda makes sense).
my friend has a nissan frontier truck and his makes the same noise after the engine has been running, maybe it is a nissan thing?
let me know what u guys think.

china
ps:98 nissan 240sx, aem intake, apexi n1 exhaust and ngk spark plugs and wires (maybe and issue with any of that shit)

thanks again guys

It could be one of your piston return springs is on its way out. If it goes out then you've got major problems. Get it checked out before that happens!

My 95 does that.Sounds like its coming from the headers. My guess would also be the exhaust cooling off.

If its a "tap tap tap" rythmic sound... your engine is frickin possessed. If it's a "tap... clack, pop" sound, not in any order or pattern, its normal. Heated metal expands, and cooling down it will pop and shrink back down.

Yeah mine makes the engine cooling ticking sounds and was wondering if something was wrong with my cooling system, but since a few are describing it then I guess mine's normal. Made me think something was wrong because my friends' cars (various, no 240s but me) didn't make these sounds after shutting off. Ah well just a harmless exhaust/engine cooling sound I suppose.

well, it starts off at pretty regular intervals, but towards the end it will get more and more random. i dunno, well i had mad hatters on waters dO the exhaust, so i didnt do the exhaust myself or anything like that. and the exhaust is a cat back.
