Small turbos? Why!?

I've noticed a lot of talk recently about smaller turbos used as upgrades to your stocker, I've been curious as to why? I understand you guys want to keep that nice feeling of stock low torque, but why not go to a t3/t4 and save yourself the time and cost of upgrading later?

As much as I would love to be the movie, and race for "slips" I enjoy autoX's which require
A: less power
B:more response
C:good handling car
D:Good driver
largest I would ever go is GT25R and thats pushing it
Really anything larger than a T28 Pulsar is to large for the autoX's

Only reason I could think of running a smaller turbo would be because it usuallys spools faster?
with the leaps and bounds of turbine and compressor wheel technology and effiiciency, the power to be made off a t25 flange and stock manifold is absolutely unbelievable these days.
