Question Steering problems

Tonight I was backing up out of a parking spot and I heard a pop noise from what sounded to be the rear of my car. Ever since I heard the pop noise my steering wheel is off center to the right about six inches and it is hard for me to keep control of my car. It feels like my whole car is swaying back and forth. Everytime I go over a bump with my back tires I hear the same pop again. Can anyone diagnose the problem? Thanks.

I tried but I couldn't see much with a flashlight. It was dark when it happened and it's stil dark. I didn't see anything unusual.

coilovers or springs??? check the upper spring perches make sure the 3 buts are tight... they might have just loosened up and the sound could be the tread from the perch...

Could be the tie rod where it bolts to the lower control arm. When those bolts get loose, everything goes wonky. Most of my bushings are shot beyond shot and it makes a loud POP every time I turn/stop/pull up a steep incline.

My money is on this as well. Provided you are positive the noise and problems are coming from the rear end of the car.

Thanks all for your help. I got a call from the mechanics today saying that some type of bar broke off my rear tire. I don't know what kind of bar it is, I forgot the name of it. He said that he hasn't seen too many of these break and is going to have trouble locating another one. Hopefully I'll get my car back by tomorrow night. Wish me luck.
