Interesting topic: Will Nissan ever "over build" like the 90's again?
Well, as the SR and RB production lines died, we lost a lot of engine potential from nissan. The new VQ series stuffs apparently are not "over built" as much as the previous nissan giants. Personally I'm not sure if i'd use a VQ in any project over one of the 90's motors.
But the real question is if nissan will ever make motors similar to the 90's ones ever again. Or will they go forced induction in the forseeable future. Logic points to no since they are cutting costs and trying to make financial gains. They are also being more environmently consious hence no more FI
All i can say is that once they get outta the financial rut, that they bring back the inline 6 in like a RQ or something, and have a 4 cyl of the same configuration. This would be more cost effective than CA + SR + RB + VG + KA + whatever, and be able to revive the silvia and skyline nameplates..

come on guys... this is the future of this forum.. Ya cant fool yourself into thinking there will be boatloads of SR's forever......
SR's are running thinner than they used to be. finding good ones is harder than ever. and eventually its gonna die. So where will we go? what will we do when they stop making SR parts? all custom pistons and rods? or do we move on to the next motor. Give this some thought guys....

Well I wouldn't throw in the towel just yet on the VQ and QR engine line-up just yet. Both are relativly new, both are just now starting to have forced induction really attempted on them. It's gonna be hard to get mega big numbers on both with stock bottom ends because of the higher stock compression and that is their major drawback IMO. The SR/VG/RB have a decade headstart in the tuner world and they're still being improved on by the tuner world, so I'd say give it more time and see what the current generation will do (I'm kinda surprised at how fast FI kits are being developed for the VQ)
i believe the vq is a 3.3 not a 3.o like the vg. they have forced induction on the vq, i`m sure you know. if they didn`t stray from the bullet-proof-ness of the vg`s bottom end then it will be a contender. shit i would love to have the extra .3 for old dirty bastard, get rid of the sc and bolt on a t3/04.(cause i`m guessing it has lower compression bc of the s/c) i`m guessing the 350z motor is a vq35de. there are turbo and twin turbo kits coming out for it and the maxima is setting down some decent hp #`s for being n/a. aftermarket? seriously, how long has a big aftermarket for import been around? shouldn`t take too long, once people start moving on from rb, sr and vg (not that there`s anything wrong with those, but even ford moved on from the 5.0) then the a/m will pick up. plus these motors arn`t cheap right now, easily picked up in junkyard, bought in clips or very aboundant in wrecks. give it time... to bad nissan chose not to continue the s body here in the us.

The rumors on Fresh Alloy are that the new Skyline motor will be a VG32DETT that puts down 480ps. Of course these are rumors, but several different sources have made mention of it.

there is no way the new skyline motor will be a VG.
VG is done on production the new stuffs is VQ.
the JGTC cars have been running VG25DETT , VQ35DETT and a variety of stroker / bore combinations as well..
VQ is not overbuilt??
Ok so maybe the early 3.0's were horrible (small journals) but the 3.5 is a fucking beast!!
yes mattback supports the vq35.
small
aluminum
large displacement and pretty f'ng strong!
QR. now that's a disaster.
new hot shit ?
SR20VET. i'm so gonna get one.
