Default Quick question for you 4G63t peeps...

ok. quick question for you guys/gals. a buddy of mine has a evo I with a built engine, bored .020 over with eagle rods, CP pistons, 272 cams, evo 8 crank, with a hybrid super 20G turbo pushing 30psi. he keeps running a felpro HG and its blown on him. actually twice now in less than a month. now im not a mitsu guy, but wouldnt it be smarter if he ran metal HG from mitsubishi or something? thanks for any tips/advice.

Does it have at least ARP's? Yes, a metal head gasket would hold up better but both the head and block would need to be decked.

felpro are good if you have O-ringed head/block but if not be sure he using arp head studs or L19 and use oem MLS gasket from the dealer. The deck is prolly fine unless you see major grooves but the head may need to be re surfaced check them with a legit straight edge (not a ruler).

hell to the yea! a metal head gasket from Mitsubishi would be the solution to this chronic problem! a 4 layer Metal HG from Mitsubishi would run u about $150 and you'd never have to worry about it blowing again.

I ran over 46psi on my stock motor with the original OEM headgasket. Stick to the factory gasket, it's not a weak link.

I hate to say this but I would stay with just a OEM non metal, because I agreed with Jerrys thoughts on a fuse like purpose, cause with the metal gasket the bottom end will go before the gasket does if something is wrong, at least with the non-metal you might me able to save your motor. And in terms of cost gasket is way cheaper than bottom end. But as the saying goes my 2 cents, but really its not my 2 cents just repeating what I agree with.
