Default tranny bolts

ok guys i have a quick question?

i have been having this problem with the bolts on my tranny, mostly the one bolt that gos from the block side to the tranny side (the small 12mm bolt).
i keep having a problem with that bolt actually snapping off into the tranny, and then once it snaps it causes all the other bolts to loosen up. and then it causes a really bad noise when the clutch is engaged (witch i know for a fact is no good) but i was talking with a friend and he was saying that i may be making the bolts on the tranny to tight and then i end's up stretching the bolt and causing it to have to much pressure on the bolt itself and making it snap and the the other bolts are also stretched and then once the pressure is released from the one bolt snapping the others start to back out.

so basically my question is has anyone else ever had this problem?
and is there an actual torque spec for the tranny bolts?

thanks

Every bolt has a torque spec. Look it up in the FSM.

ok from what i found the specs are
Trans to motor bolts-32-39 for the big ones and 22-25 for the rear one
dose that sound about right?

just wanting to make sure.

Try re taping the that 12mm and then use some arp or w.e. lube when you tq it. I was having a hard time getting mine in all the way but after taping it I found dirt and rust in there.

I had this problem on my 1st gen... it took me 2 years before I figured out that it was my hard motor mounts... they were too hard and the torque from my engine was snapping up to 2 of them at a time. I dont know if you have solid motor mounts or moded ones but this was my problem. Also a leaky valve cover gasket leaks Alllll the way down to the front bolt on the tranny and heat, vibration, oil, makes it back out. Then the others fail...

Again I am not sure what you have done to your car but this is what happened to me... 3 clutches later... (1 stage 3) and 2 trannys... 40+ hours under the car.... it was the hard motor mounts... and the leaky valve cover.... Believe it or not...

ok well i went out last night and felt a small vibration so i decided to check the bolts and sure enough the small rear one snapped again on me, as well as the top left one that gos into the block.

so i was wondering if anyone happens to have some extra transmission bolts laying around that they could check the size and thread pitch, so i can go and get some hardened bolts so i can try to solve my problem.

I'm assuming you do have dowel pins between the motor and the transmission? If not, that's your problem.

Are all the mounts lined up correctly? Its a swapped colt correct? If your pushing high hp, and the tranny mount is off alittle the stress will end up snapping it, then at heat, tq, etc even faster issues. Also, what bolts are you using? Hardware store or oem. What grade, what metal?
