Default 2000 Galant Question for the Guru's

So I have not had a boosted car since my Stage 4 subie was stolen a year ago. This happened while my wife was pregnant and now the baby is here. So there isnt the extra funds for me to play with and buy something fun. I do have a 2008 ZX6R that is nicely modded to have fun with. But I have this 2000 galant that was sitting around so I started to drive it as my daily driver when im not on the bike. Just for kicks I was reading about how several people have put the exhaust mani and turbo from any 90-99 GST, DSM etc.. on my motor. Add a fuel pressure reg and set it at 5lbs of boost and from what i read my 4G64 Would handle it fine. It wouldnt do anything special and I surely wouldnt be racing it. But it has me wanting to tinker with it. Just to see how it would really perform. If the motor pops its no big deal. Just a lesson learned.

So is this possible? I do realize the work involved with the oil lines, vac lines, etc.. that would be needed for the turbo setup. But it almost sounds too good to be true. I could even mount a tiny intercooler infront of the radiator. Not that 5lbs would really even need much of one. A stock one from any boosted car in a junk yard.

So is this idea possible? I really wanna play with it and see now. Question is which manifold and from which year? I really wish instead of a galant it was a 90+ DSM.

I am a computer engineer with a stay at home wife and to many kids. so thats where all the kids go. I can trade work or computers or parts if someone needs puter work also.. I have been doing it for just over 10 years and I work for an enterprise currently. So just keep that in mind if anyone has any parts.. Ofcourse I can also just buy them too...

very possibley my friend did it to his 99. 2g mani. used a 16g at 8psi hooked up a maf translator pro 2g injectors. had to get a oil return welded onto his pan. and it was auto. he dynoed at 280 hp or so at the 8psi if your serious i could get more info or let you talk to him. his build was on the galant forums i think.

edit:ipt makes a shift kit if your gonna keep it auto. or you could slap on a gst trans not sure what yaer though.

It is going to cost $1200 at a bare bones minimum to mock an Evo factory turbo setup on a 4g64 galant. The biggest issue is clearing the starter with the turbo. Your going to have to use two spacers and even then the hotside is nearly touching the starter. Another issue is tuning. On a 5speed you can atleast flash an evo8 rom to the ecu so it is tunable but with the eclipse/galant/stratus/ etc... roms the load scales do not exceed 100 and they can not be rescaled higher as the pre written program is not designed to read anything higher. A solution would be to wire in dual issues IE: your factory one in with an Evo Ecu which is a bit of a pain in the ass.

You can use the factory fpr till about 12psi on a 16g and the factory fuel pump till about 10psi on a 16g just for reference.

IMO it is not worth it.

280whp out of 8psi on a 16g from the factory 4g64 must have been a VERY high reading dynojet. Realisticly that setup would push approx. 200whp with an auto trans. The factory head/cam is a major flow restriction. This motor in a 5speed usually produces between 300-320whp max without modifying the head/intake manifold.

The 5speed transmission swap that works is from a 3g eclipse/stratus/seabring generation. A gst transmission faces the wrong way and will not work. Even then the gears have been known to lose teeth aroung the 400whp range and the factory differential spider gears snap off around 300whp. Still not a very reliable option.

i could be wrong on those numbers but there was definetly no problems using a 2g mani and a 16g.

Man you guys know your stuff. I am serious. I should be able to save up 1200 pretty quickly.. I really wanna do this. Where is the best place to source parts? Ebay? And i am going to have to keep it Auto for now. If the auto blows ill then swap to a 5spd. But here is the deal, I am not looking to change a whole lot. I only want about 5LBS of Boost, I have ECUflash and Enginuity to tune the ROM if i wanted to pull it. But i really just want to give it a few lbs of boost and only a fuel pressure regulator and see if the stock ECU will adjust itself. I have my USB to OBDII from tuning my subies. And im used to broken gears with my Subies.. UGH those trannies SUCK IMO. 310 whp and SNAP! 1700$ later i was driving again. So i was just planing on doing jsut a little work, Now the starter is something I will have to address.

I plan on getting serious with a different car in the next 2 years. I have to wait till the kids get a bit older and more time goes by. I want to put twins on a Z06 or something of that nature. Right now I just got done doing a 2JZ-GTE swap with a 60 trim in an IS300. Had to re solder the wireing harness on that one and it was a PIA. But we built a new 2Jz and put 720cc inj in it. Right now its only running 10 LBS of boost so not to blow the stock IS300 5spd tranny. But we have the WG dump pipe cut and only a couple inchs long. Boy its LOUD!! And it hits 10lbs of boost almost instantly.. And I am a bit ricey i luv the supra sound when the BOV and WG combo go off during a shift.

He can use factory Evo piping and fmic. Much cheaper and cleaner looking then chopping up pipes to make it fit.

Sorry to say no. They are only 240cc injectors. You will run dangerously lean. Besides the factory wastegate on a 16g ends up producing a minimum of 8-10psi on a 4g64.
