slow start w/push button
My factory ignition switch died on me, so I went and got a button to replace it ($70 vs $5)

^ there is the switch if it matters.
Anyway, before I put the switch in, the car would almost always start on the 4th time it turned over. Now it just sits there forever and cranks then eventually barely catches and starts running.
So I'm wondering if I put the switch in wrong. I ran a fused 12v wire to the switch, then from the switch to the starter. I just cut the signal wire at the starter, so I didn't really mess with anything else...
Is there another wire I need to hook up to 12v when the car is starting or something, when the key would be in the start position? Or is it probably just a coincidence and I have another problem?
Any advice is appreciated

Did you use a relay or just the power that passes through the switch? If you dont have a relay you should because you wont be getting enough juice to the starter. This is the best diagram I could find quickly hope it helps....

Well I decided not to use a relay. I guess I didn't describe it correctly, the starter turns the motor over just fine, even faster than before the switch was installed actually. The motor just doesn't start running under its own power for 5-10 seconds. Thanks anyway tho..

Ok, I've been told the fuel pump doesn't turn on till the motor is running or the key is in the start position. Seems like this might be the issue.
Anyone have any advice on how to get the fuel pump to turn on with the push button? Thanks...

you're gonna end up like this...
Correct me if i am wrong but i think it might have something to do with what happens when you turn the key to start. Doesnt the ecu kill almost everything while the motor is turning over, then turns it back on once started. Like the stereo, gauges lights, etc.. Maybe that might have something to do with it. Because your button starts it quick when the key is in the start position right? I think i know how you could fix it. You would have to wire a relay to where when you push the button... it kills power to the on terminal of the ign. Switch, then when you let go of the button , the relay will open the connection again.

did you yank the whole switch or do you still use a key to turn the car to 'on' then push the button?
he turns the key to on then pushes the button, but he bypassed the "start" on the ign. So if he turns the key to start it does nothing, all it does is stop power to the on position, while it is in the start position.

wire it thought the stock system.when you turn the key on the fuel pump runs for a few seconds untill fuel pressure is gained. i think it's like 3 seconds or something. but it also sends a electrical signal to your coil pack or distibitor to start firing, and it tells the injectors to start there duty cycle....i-e just hooke it into the start wire under the dash that is in the back of your switch there for it's the same as turning the key

Someone hacked all the wires to hell trying to install a turbo timer in my car. I've always had problems with different parts of the factory starter circuit so I just decided to run my own wire. And yes I still use the key to turn it to acc/on/off.
I guess I gotta find out what all those other wires in there do now, and run the ones that matter to the switch as well. Sound right?
