Default over heating?

ok guys so i woke up to drive to work this morning, halfway to my job i noticed my temp guage is through the roof. i stopped to checked everything looked fine didnt feel over hot in the bay. got to work. but the day before it was fine driving home. what could have possibly happened overnight to cause my car to over heat? also if my car was overheating would it cause my egt guage to be higher then normal also because it was normal. thanks for the help.

There are only a few things that can cause overheating, if you have enough coolant, and your fans are working, thermostat is fine it is more than likely a head gasket problem. And yes any heat buildup in the motor will result in a higher EGT reading.
