I just dont see how a shop like that can stay in business. I have heard nothing but bad stories come out of that shop and I have a friend that owns a DSM shop and he has fixed so many of their fuck ups. Yet people keep taking them their cars. Its one thing to fuck something up, we are all human it happens but its another to not stand up and take responsibility of your fuck up.

The dowel pins have to be in. They properly space the starter and align the clutch disc with the input shaft.

Dowels are very much needed. They are for proper alignment. If your starter makes strange noises that is the first sign. I know someone who broke 3 starters before he realized the importance of dowels. Thing is he was using them. But they were installed in the tranny and not the engine. When they are in the tranny they go in too deep and they wont reach the engine. If dowels arent present the face of tranny cant shift around on the engine. doesnt matter how tight you think the bolts are. The clutch disc will feel major pain as the flywheel will spin it off center. very likely to cause undue chatter which would kill the springs quickly.

Must not have had the dowels put in mine because the starter i brought them wouldn't align properly so they had to buy a different one and it makes a horrible noise. Plus the clutch seems to chatter a bit more than it should.

You dont have to take a motor apart. You just have to drop the tranny.
