The rod bearing from this engine had classic signs of detonation damage. There were huge craters in the bearings from the beating it was taking.

Simply cant fault the eagle rod in this case. Detonation kills all motors.

I agree is very clear there are more eagle rod failures posted than any other rod design. But there are also more like 100/1 more in use than any other rod.

I've seen just about every rod fail given the right conditions. Loose rod bolts, overtorqued rod bolts, oil starvation, detonation, etc.

jerry, you think its just from detonation over time? like i said that engine has seen plenty of detonation, i think it just added up over time, cause on that particular pull, everything was in check.

eagle rods don't just break for no reason...and you run methanol...all signs point to detonation.

It was also obvious the damage happened over time. The rest of the bearing was very smooth like it had miles on it after the damage. If the amount of material missing had displaced instantly on one bad pull it would have seized a bearing from all the material trying to pass through a .002 space.

Detonation can cause a stress crack in rod or piston. Once it cracked it could let go at anytime. making it difficult to pinpoint when the actual damage took place

ok thanks, i thought i was going crazy wondering how it could break when everything was in check during that pull.
