Help guys!!!!! It seems that if I go reverse and hit the gas I would hear this loud clanking in the bay. I would even hear it lightly on and off during a stop. I just had the engine mounts fixed and all at a local shop about 3-4 months ago and Ive only started to notice this a few weeks ago. Is there a way to see if it is the mounts? Is there a way to reinforce the mounts with aftermarket bushings etc...? I have a bad CV and I meant to get it fixed but I know that CVs dont make a clanking noise during a stop and when U mash the pedal in reverse. It just feels abnormal when I hit the gas on the green and it seems like my engine is about to jump out of the bay feels like Ive lost a bit of pick up too!!!! I would much rather be informed than to go to a dealer and be blindsided with a huge bill not knowing that they may have just tighten a nut and took 10 minutes to do it. I drive a 99 eclipse RS any help will be greatly aprreciated!!!!!!!

You might want to check and see if the mounts are tightened down properly. If your car is a 99 why dont you take it in to the dealer for warranty?

Honda guys break engine mounts all the time due to the tremendous amounts of torque they produce so Honda owners are excellent diagnosers of broken motor mounts. Heres how you do it. Youll need a friend.

Get in car start it put it in first gear pull the E brake up tightly. pop the hood and prop it securely. While your friend watching the engine bay try to slowly take off (heavy clutch slipping) in 1st gear then reverse. If your motor mounts are broken the engine will move quite a bit. If not youll probably just put some extranious wear on your clutch and possibly stall it.

If its an automatic...dunno what to tell you man...

for an automatic use the same method as john said just watch the engine as you are shifting into drive or reverse....

your engine will move a bit with good or bad mounts but with bad mounts it will make a clunck noise and will move more suddenly and not very smooth looking......take a look at someone elses car that has good mounts to see how smooth the engine moves back and forth to get an idea then try it with yours
