Hey all i heard alot about the transmissions in the 91 Eclipse GSXs and the Talon TSi AWDs being faulty or breaking alot and since i was considering getting one i just wanted to ask around before makeing some kind of mistake should i go ahead and get the car??? or should i shop for something else. (state what u have heard about the transmissions too please)

 

The tranny in the 1g isnt all that bad the 2g tranny is better but there is a fix now to get the 1g tranny to shift like the 2g. Probably alot of the stories you have heard are of cars producing alot of power and launching them real hard. If you have 400 Hp and a tranny designed for 200 hp that is old and you rev it to hard and launch something gotta give. There are alot of guys here with 1gs making good power with stock tranny and going strong. Its all in the way you drive it.

 

go with act,,, i got one and it's serving em well,,, you cant go wrong, everyone i know that got an act set,, and even a findaza,,, lives on without problems.

 

trannys are god but depending on how you treat them. you treat your car (tranny, engine) good it will treat you good. that is my pholosphy (can't spell). its the same with any car not just dsm's. you can always rebuild them to make them alot stronger. the more hp you have the worse things get. thanks mike

 

Don't power shift or shift at high rpms and you'll be fine

 

Its the 90 awd trannt that sucks. The 91 tranny is fine and can be made into a near bullit proof tranny. A 91 GSX OR TSi is a great car to start with. You have the much better pop-ups and no 90 electronics. If you ever start to have problems with the tranny just have jerry turn it into a lancerman tranny.
