How trust worthy are these things in the 97-98 models? On top of that Im guessing that upgrading the clutch is one expensive and tedious project! Can any one clarify please?

The 2G trannys are better. You will not have drivetrain problems at the level you are looking to det to. The only problem may be your scrawny ass pushing down the 2600# clutch ahahah. You may be able to get away with just an ACT 2100# actually. Clutch isnt bad the only thing more involved than a FWD is 4-5 bolts to pop the transfer case off. Other than that no different. Maybe 20 minutes more work at most. Clutches are about $380. I do my own so I dont really know what installation will cost.

Clutch installation wasnt nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Car came apart in about an hour minus a fight with a spindle nut that didnt even have to come off.

getting ready to put it back in as we speak.

97+ has the best trannies. As for clutch installs. I have always had someone do mine. I don;t have a driveway/garage to work on it so I pay someone else to do it. $300 for installs. Jeorge at foreign connection did mine and I was happy with the install.
