GSX transfer case VS EVO transfer case
all this talk and no real help.
Fernando is talking about doing a AWD conversion on a gs/rs and everyone else is talking about doing a 4g63 conversion.
I think what you really need to do is buy a rs 2000+ shell and drop a evo 4g63 then add a 95-99 gsx rear sub frame which I have been told bolts right up then all you really need is a custom drive shaft.
The EVO engine and tranny are much MUCH stronger than a dsm.
I want to see this done soooooo........

first thing you gotta understand is that the rs/gs model eclipses are totally different than the gst/gsx eclipses.. they both use totally different motors and the way the mounts are setup in each of these cars are made speific for the engine it comes with. the rs/gs eclipses/talon come with the 420a chyrsler motor(aka a dodge neon motor for the most part with a few differences). gst/gsx uses the 4g63t mitsu motor. ok now here goes. trying to swap in a 4g63t motor in a rs/gs will be one big headache and cost you alot of money. thats just the motor swapping part. then you have to find a wrecked gsx and then buy the parts off that. like the tranny w/ transfer case, driveshaft, rear axle w/ diff, gas tank, and few other odds and ends.to save yourself this headache and throwing away all this money, get yourself a gsx shell... and or, i have heard rumors and seen pics
the evo 4g63 engine sits the same way the 420a does. it would be alot simpler to swap(from what ive seen) to swap one of those in their than 1g/2g eclipse/talon 4g63(which is basically the evo 1-3 motor except for the 6 bolt)

i don't recall telling anyone what engine I was going to use.
I don't recall offering up very many details about this project at all.
Thats the one thing I hate about your average DSM guy. they all think that the only engine is 4g63. I personally hate the engine. I wouldn't ever build that engine... unless someone was gonna pay me large sums of money, and even then, I would be hard pressed to do it.

I knew that they shared the same (ish) engine, i just didn't know if they built the parts stronger or not.
I'm not gonna use the tranny either. I just wanted to know about the transfer case. I'm gonna mate it to a completely different tranny.
The engine is gonna rev out to at least 10,000 so 6,000 launches are gonna be pretty common. I didn't want to run the risk of blowing out the transfer case at the launch...

its just frustrating when people assume, and even more so when they assume wrong, then tell you how stupid you are for even thinking of that idea.... even though, you had a completely different idea.
mix that with having to filter though all of the useless crap to get to an answer and you end up a little aggrevated...

anyone will assume the same thing when you are talking about a awd 350hp eclipse launching at 6grand.
Pretty much everything that is on the evo's are better and stonger. The dsm transfer cases will take alot of abuse though, ive put mine thru hell and they are easy and cheap to come buy. If your going all out though, it wont hurt to go with the evo though.

yeah, i didn't know if people were saying that the evo was better just because it was newer or if it was actually better.
what about the power distubtion? 50/50 would be nice, but i don't want to have to tweak anything to get it, ya know. there is already gonna be enough time and money invested into the rest of the car...
