rule #1 make sure the car is running properly and no leaks at all before ever thinking of adding performance parts

why does everyone want a turbo timer as there first mod ?? they are usually for people running non-water cooled turbos and run them hard. plus if you use synthetic oil ( which you should ) then there should never be an issue with clogging up the stock water cooled turbo.
synthetic +1, and now that im sure your throughly convinced you don't need a turbo timer, don't go out and buy a big ass turbo and slap that bitch on there cause big turbo+ stock untuned build = blown motor real quick id say start out small intake exhaust bov (if you wanna go pssshhhhhhh) then go up from there you can squeeze out some power jsut by doing little stuff

these are some pretty helpful( and descriptive) walk through s on upping the power of your car I can't remember if you have a 1g or a 2g so I'll just post up both and if you have a 3g, well im sorry for you lol

Once you get all of the General Maintenance done on the car and it is running smoothly..

be prepared to repair something, because just when you think your car is running good BAM!

there are already several upgrade paths written up on the web (google search: "DSM upgrade path")

here was my first mod group
Full 2.5 down pipe and 3'' R&D cat back
tubular o2 housing with atmosphere dumped wastegate
EVO 3 16g ported and clipped
all hard intercooler piping
boost controller
SAFC
255lph fuel pump
wideband (!!!)
and some help getting my fuel trims close without having a logger and watching timing. It did really well for what it was...

good luck with your car!
if i could offer just one piece of advice...

READ, read read!
read about your car!!!
there isnt a problem that you will have that 9million people havnt already had (with posted answers and pictures to boot)

There are websites that tell you excactly what to do before modding and the steps to take if you want certain things out of your car. the most we can tell you is research, and when you find something research what you found make sure its correct. To many ideas by different people. Find what has worked for others and make your choice.
