when my external wastegate opens, the noise is really wierd sounding like detonation almost....its not detonation cause the ecu reads no knock. it doesnt sound like the normal air wooshing. is that normal for some wastegates depending on where its mounted and stuff?

Is you dump pipe pointed right at the ground.

 

normal. you have an open dump. when the wastegate opens engine exhaust is heard with no muffling whatsoever. the sound of open dumps can really vary froim car to car. some are tolerable some are not. some like the sound some dont.

 

yea well garrett was riding in the car and hes like omg your car is detonating, but i the ecu wasnt reading knock, and my knock sensor is REALLY sensitive.....it IS pointed at the ground btw, just makin sure cause its not one smooth noise at all its really, i cant really explain it but garrett said it sounds like detonation, its sounds kinda ricey..but i dont mind as long as its normal

Dane I know when I was running my open dump setup it would make a weird noise when I was at partial throttle and the wastegate was opening and closing really quick.
Are you referring to this being at wide open throttle with the noise your hearing?
