why is that in some cars you can plainly hear the turbo through the exhaust and yet on pur cars you can not ?

example: srt4

what is it that causes you to hear it ?

 

Good question, if i knew the answer my car would sound like that too
Maybe the size/shape of the turbo? Ive got straight 3" piping all the way out and you cant hear the turbo like you can in a SRT-4.

 

any kind of baffle in exhaust will kill the sound. straight exhaust on srt4

 

well on my friend 2nd gen he did a evo 16g, fmic, and 3", and alot other mods and that was four months ago, he just start to here the turbo through the exhuast. i guess it takes a while

 

I believe on those srt4`s that you hear the turbo. Are also running open down pipe.

 

laugh if you want but it is intimidating sounding . i want mine to sound like that.

 

Put a race pipe or gutted cat in place of the stock cat in an srt-4 and you will get that sound. Take the baffle out as well and it will be even more noticable. I had 3 inch turbo back straight thru on my old one and you could hear it like it was open dp. An srt-4 turbo is small also, so just going thru a parking lot it will somewhat spool thats why you hear the sound but without the loud rush of air when you hit boost. On bigger turbo'd cars it doesnt do it at lower speeds like in a parking lot

 

Alot of the srt4 guys buy the 3" dp with the e-cut hooking off of it..

 

My 1g sounds like that. 3" straight through exhaust *no muffler/cat/resonator* It sounds awesome, but just a little to loud.

 

alot of 1gs will do it with a full exhaust, just depends on the muffler. miine never have, but my conquest did with a thermal. but yes, a open exhaust will do it, downpipe or ran out the back.
