That would certainly skew the results.
Developing a solution cannot be done exclusively on paper - this is an empirical question. When those 400 or so randomly selected cranks in 2g blocks are nitrided and sent on their way, along with a significant group of rebuilds that do not include the nitrided crank, and 150k miles later these engines return with a significantly lower rate of crankwalk incidents in the nitrided group, then this possible solution will have been tested, at which point we can dub it "Jerry's Law".

The difference between me and you is I can deduce that there is no difference between a 6bolt and 7bolt block other than one has a nitrided crank and one doesn't. This is not theory, its fact.

both have same oil pumps. both have same size oil passages. both have eight squirters. both have same size oil clearances. both have same oil pressure.

is someone going to nitride 400 cranks in 400 cars to prove the theory to people like you? not a chance in a million.

If you have another theory thats makes any kind of mechanical sense at all I would be happy to debate it with you.

6 bolts have crankwalked and they have nitrated cranks from the start.

As for having your motor built. Easiest would be just take it to jerry. He has a toque plate also.
I have heard good things about enginelab before but was alittle turned off by them when I called to see if they could o-ring my block or head and they had no idea what I was talking about. Nolonger fely comfortable with a machine shop that doesnt know what o-ringing a combustion chamber is. Plus they are expensive.
Jerry may not be the absolute cheapest choice out there but he certainly isnt the most expensive.

yes we know that. all motors of all types suffer from possible crankwalk. the fact is nitriding the crank will reduce the occurance. whether or or not you want to believe nitriding the 7 bolt crank will reduce the occurance to that of the level of a 6 bolt is the whole question. I believe it does. Its not rocket science, just simple friction problem.

I do believe that the nitrating of 2g cranks will reduce the occurance of crankwalk to the rarity of the 6bolt crankwalking.
I am just old school. I like the good old 2.0ltr 6bolt.
I have never had a 2g so never need to deside what to do when the factory motor failed. I like simplicity so I would probably build a 2.0 7 bolt, have the crank nitrated and make sure the clutch start switch is disconnected.

Hopefully I will get my pistons before Christmas so I can start enjoing my car again.

thats my exact plans..

I'm sorry but the 7:8.1 compression is just grossly too low..

the real ? is how high do you really want to go ... im so iffy about going with high compression ... but yea ...
