I pretty much did what jerry said on my last 3 5.0 motors 
and that 1-2k mile bullshit is all garbage..
same thing with new cars at dealerships.. fucking peel out of the parking lot.. it wont make a difference.

I read that page and it made a lot of sense, so I tried it myself on a few engines we built.
The result? Rings seated faster.
If you think about it, rings are the only thing that have to "wear in" in a motor. Bearings, all that stuff, are best when new, and immediately go downhill from there.
