Default Head And Block Quote

I went to a machine shop today to get a quote for the head and block. They quoted the head for $300 and the block for $1800. They are a very reliable shop and do some impressive work. But I was just wondering if these were reasonable prices? And if not what are the most common prices that shops charge? Thanks for the input

Jesus, what are they charging you in labor? If a person doing a rebuild knew what they were doing and they devoted their whole attention to it, it should only take between 15 - 20 hours to remove the old motor, assemble the new one and reinstall assuming every single part was available. Hell, if there were more than one person it would take less time. At $75/hr for labor @ 20 hrs only comes to $1500 + tax and disposal fees.

Are you having anything ordered? Do you have EVERYTHING to rebuild the kit such as a full rebuild gasket set? I have found that if the shops have to use "their money" to order your parts, they tack on a little extra to make money on that end as well.

No not from them. I'm ordering all the stuff from different areas. Then I'm having them put it all together. But the only thing I'm going to need is the gasket set which hopefully i can get from the place where i get the work done.

is it 1800 for just labor and machining? if its 1800 including the price of rods/pistons/crank etc. then it had better be a built motor. my bottom end costed me 1600 dollars, everything uncluded, put together.

Ya its 1800 for the machining and instal of the parts i have to buy seperate. To me it sounds expensive but i dont really know cuz this is the first car i've ever had to get machine work done to.

Wow... you are getting it up the ass. If it isnt too late, you need to take your business elsewhere. They are overcharging you considerably!
