Maybe right. Turbo may be a little bit much for him to do if he doesn't do any of his own work. Just saying that it's not the hardest job to do in the world.

But like the saying goes...
DSM's turning the average car owner into a mechanic since 1989

Some of us may not be certified mechanics but you don't need to be to gain knowledge on these cars. I'm not certified mechanic but I did swap turbos on the TSI I had. I also pulled the engine and tranny and dropped another engine in with tranny and did a bunch of other stuff. There's a first for everything, thats how come you buy the "DSM bible" and read and try. I was just offering advice. I did most of my stuff without asking too many questions. Its common sense and it takes no genius to loosen bolts, take things off and replace them with new parts the opposite way you took the old part(s) off. Breaking studs can happen to anybody, even a certified mechanic.

buy the book "maximum boost" by corky bell. great book on installing/choosing/and any thing else you want to know about turbos. it should be able to help you with just about anything you run into.

You dont need to defend your statement. You are missing the whole point. MOST people should not touch their car. Period. You on the other hand touched your car and did well. So now everybody should be able to do the same? Wow great advice.

Only two that do work for people. There are a fair number of people that do their own work and know their stuff.
