Default Awd question

I just got my car up and running again after I put my welded center diff in and now the past couple of weeks my left rear pass. side axle clicks when I turn. At least it sounds like it is the passenger side from inside the car. But I was told that the rear cv joints dont really ever go out. It almost sounds like a locker in the rear of a 4x4 truck if any knows what that sounds like.

eww..... welded diffs are the gay! JFWY. Have you checked under there to see if anything was wrong? Does it click everytime you turn? Are you sure you just arent hearing you tire skid from it being welded?

Yes John im sure its not tire skipping. Have you ever heard a locker on a 4x4 thats what it sounds like click click click. And yes ive gotten underneath the car and even changed out the rear diff lube.

Yea, my friend has a jeep and that sound is just absolutely annoying. Maybe if Im not scheduled to play poker tomorrow, Ill try to hit up the QS&L and bring the brothers with me to pinpoint whats going on under there. Ill hit you up if I can make it.

I have a welded center diff too and I hate it. I get the clicking as well but usuaslly only when Im turning in reverse.

I cant wait to get a new tranny and replace the piece of shit thats in there now, no first gear, JB welded housing, and the fucking welded center diff.

Kris's car has a welded diff and it makes the same clicking noise. It seems like just another side effect of this "upgrade".

I would never do it to my car.

So how long have you guys safely been driving on it??
I mean is it a beginning of another problem or is this something you have to cope with?
And it you leave it will it be ok or make something go bad??

Shit I thought the rear diff was going out on me. But if the two of you are having the same clicking noise in the rear then I guess I wont stress about to much. If it is bad and does end up breaking I guess I will be fixing that next.

There was a huge thread about it on DSMtalk when I searched on it. Basically no one can prove that it causes anything to go wrong. Sure it puts some extra stress on the rear axles, your turning radius sucks, tires hop, you get the clicking, and it also worsens gasd milage from what Ive read. In my opinion its not worth it at all, unless your running in the 11s the stock diff is fine. I cant wait to go back to it.

You will break things like stripping the spines off the axles. I would never weld a diff in a street car. Only for straight line purpose built drag.
