Default block-off EGR on california emissions 1G?

well... i just noticed that my 92 GST is a california emissions car, not a federal emissions. so its got a gay ass EGR sensor w/ 3 nipples and a gas flow heat sensor in it. i made a block off plate to sandwich between the EGR and the manifold. so, the car sputtered to life last night but the check engine light came on. and im willing to bet that its due to the block off plate between the EGR and the manifold. i think the ECU is seeing that the motor has been running for at least 30 seconds and has seen virtually no change in the Exhaust Gas Temp (variable resistance). so im suspecting this is my problem. anyone know how to get around this EGR thing.

since its a variable resistance, and the 2 wire plug giong to the EGR is power and ground, i SHOULD be able to disconnect the plug and solder on a resistor from Radio Shack to simulate a constant resistance to make the ECU think that the EGR is heated up all the time. any know what impedence rating the resistor needs to be to simulate the heated exhaust gas passing thru the EGR valve?

...really quick, off the top of my head: Don't all california emissions dsms have eprom ECUs? If so, I believe you can burn a chip to get around it. But, I might be entirely wrong, as I didn't do the research and never cared to know how to get around a problem I've never had...

Don't waste the EGR-T input on a resistor, you can use that to log a map or a wideband or something useful. The california/fed configuration is selected by resistors on the board, you just have to clip the right one and it goes into federal mode. I can't remember which ones, you should be able to find the info in a search. If not, try searching the dsm-ecu yahoo group, I know the info has been posted there.

yeah Jordan is on the right track, there is a resistor, and im not sure if its just the presence of that resistor or the value thats different to descern federal to california. If it helps in your search, all 1994 DSMs had the EGR sensor, so in effect all 94s were California.. ECU so to speak.
