I can't even begin to tell you how many people I know who were in school, trying to build their DSM and had to simply give up because of the cost/time consumption. It's not cheap by any means, which can turn out to be near impossible when you're in school and can't have a decent job or hours. Not to mention it's always a good idea to have a beater when building any car for the mere fact that there's a good chance the car isn't going to be running somedays. If you're just throwing on a a couple bolt-ons, fine, but I'm guessing the modding bug will bite you and you'll find yourself in a rut before you know it like so many people (even on here) can attest to.

If you are poor like you say you are, in school, and on your own, you don't need a DSM. The things are money pits, even when they aren't heavily modified. Fortunately, I was able to resist the mod bug and am able to keep my finances under control, otherwise I'd be in huge ass debt right now. Sure you can get a GS-T, I just wouldn't heavily modify it and you better be able to learn how to work on your car some, otherwise you'll be paying mechanics out the ass to do work for you. Just keep the car maintained well and it should hold up pretty well.

To answer your question about getting a GSX, keep searching. They are kind of hard to come by at a dealership, but they pop up once in a while. Hope you have good credit if you are looking to get good financing. Otherwise, be prepared to pay about double the orginal amount of the car.

Honestly, if I were you, I'd stick to getting my education first, then worry about buying a fast car. Finish school/college, then you can afford something nicer than a DSM. That's my plan at least. A fast car isn't worth putting off your education and/or putting yourself in heavy debt. I've known a number of people that decided to put off college so they could get a job because they wnted a cool car first. They keep saying that they will eventually go back to college, but before they know it, 3 years pass since being in high school, and they have the car they wanted, but they are strapped down with payments and insurance for the next 5 years. They can't go back to college because they can't afford it and they have to work 50+ hours a week for it. Pretty soon, they lose their desire to go to college and they are stuck in their shit hole job. I'm just saying, be realisitc and think it out a little more. College is NOT cheap, especially if you don't have any scholarships/grants to help you out. It can get down right expensive as hell depending on your major.

Let me re=phrase a little of what I said above. Basically, if you have a job that can comfortably pay all your living expenses, car, insurance, etc. and can work with your school schedule (assuming you can handle school and a full time work schedule), then go for it. Just pray you don't lose your job or that you find one equally as good or better though.

2gen (95-99) GS-X's are far and few between. They are AWD, and most I've seen for sale are Automatic.
Not to mention that they are expensive and wiegh approx 300lbs. more. Good thing they have more TractioN!

A GS-t with almost 100K will need to (if not already) have a new/rebuilt turbo soon. Mine had mad shaft play when my 4g63 died with 118K on it (granted I beat the piss out of it and boosted way too much on the T-25.)

Forgive any re-statments from this thread, I admittidly skimmed over it.
