Default need advice from engine guru's (kinda long)

I have a problem that is concerning me and I want your opinions on it. I just had my engine rebuilt and I got it back last tuesday, wednesday night/thursday morning the lifters started tapping and the CEL came on. I took the car back to the place where I got the rebuild done and they told me it was the EGR valve causing the CEL to come on and the Lifters they would take care of. Now I only drove the car exactly 97 miles since I've had it. I just got a call this morning and they said the cylinder furthest away from the EGR valve bubbled up and cracked. They are fixing it at no charge to me except for the EGR valve that needs to be replaced. They are also saying that because of the EGR valve malfunctioning, that's what caused the top of that cylinder to heat up and crack. Now my concern is, I have JE forged pistons that were installed with this rebuild. I have a strong feeling that there is no way that after 97 miles it could have cracked like that. The problem is I am not completely sure. Could this really be a possibility with the EGR or are they just trying to cover their ass cause they know they fucked up??? Any input would greatly be appreciated. TIA

Is the engine a 6 bolt or a 7 bolt?

umm, not that I know of

the egr valve has to do with emmissions, I cannot even come up with the wildest possiblities how it would lead to a cracked piston. Did you break it in correctly?.......sounds like they did something really bad.

Ok here is what the shop is telling me. The EGR recirculates cool air to the top of the pistons so that the piston doesnt over heat and crack . I also thought that it only had to do with emmisions but they are telling me something different. I think they just really fucked up and want to cover themselves big time. That's why they are blaming it on the EGR. Even in theory if that were to happen, it should not happen only after 97 miles. If I knew this was going to be such a problem I would not have gone to this place. I only went due to the warranty it came with.

Im no expert but that sounds ridiculous. As far as i know, the EGR was designed for cars in cold weather states. It means Exhaust Gas Recirculation which by no means would be cold air going to the pistons. Thats just dumb. The EGR i believe was used to recirculate some warm exhaust gases into the intake t help cars in cold weather states warm up more quickly. Needless to say its pretty worthless in FL.

Cyclone intake manifolds don't even have an egr valve cause in japan they don't have emissions.....so to keep the pistons cooler is a little off i think

Ok , egr (exaust gas return/ recirculator) recurculates exaust gases"hot" back into the motor for emissions and better gas mi , this doesent even open till you are driving the car at when it is all warmed up and there is a pretty high vac count"cruzing at one speed 15inch pounds of vac or more" but over time this system builds up alot of carbons and doesent to anything but waist power. it would not and i repeat would not cause the top of a piston to crack , If you want i have a engine scanner a OTC 4000{ENHANCED} I will scan the engine for you and let you know what is going on and even fix the problem for you if you want. send me a pm and dont worry I have my ase's and alot of ppl will vouch for my work , But if you continue to listen to shops that are going to lie to you all you will be in is more shit.

egr valve was not the cause, and don't pay for another one either...it's not a neccessary component for emission test free florida..that's why people block them off. keep the "bad" egr valve you have and make or buy (i can make you one) a block off plate. they're lying.
