Alright guys sorry this is so long but I had to tell you what happened thursday when I went to the shop to look at the Engine. 1st off, I wanted to take photos of the piston and EGR and they automatically told me "no". Gee I wonder why????? Secondly, the owner of the shop still tried to say it was the EGR valve that caused the damage to the piston. The piston wasn't cracked at all, it was gaulded. Meaning the side of the pistons were scratched up however they were still covering the damage done this 1 time under warranty because they didnt have that EGR valve on the suggested items to repair or replace. I looked over the piston that damaged and kept my mouth shut told them to replace the EGR valve and since it was there, clean and service the injectors also and got it in writing. Later, my mechanic friend and I started talking about possibilities of what could have caused the gaulding. Now I'm no expert but I do know a little bit about the pistons and the way it works and what my friend and I came up with was 1 of 2 things, Either the installation of piston #1 and/or all of them was completely screwed up so thats why they are covering it or the Injectors were so bad that it caused it to run too lean and heated up the rings to a point where they expanded too much causing the piston to stay stuck on or scrape the cylinder wall. I honestly think it was a combination of their oversight and because I didnt have the injectors serviced when I was there the 1st time. Either way, the problem is getting fixed with a cylinder sleeve, new piston and should be ready in about 10 days or so.

nope.....only thing I am paying for is the EGR valve (even though I know I dont need it) and the injectors to be serviced so they cant come back and say that it was something they recommended and I declined there fore warranty would be void.

Default EGR! boy what up with that.

OK, I have been doing some reasearch and came across this thread in the process. I just read on the toyota forums that the gasses from the exaust when mixed with the fuel cool the fuel charge. ^^ Hmmm. Still researching. I rebuilt my Probe and used Weisco pistions to increase the Compression. I'm having a heat build up problem(Not toasted pistions that I'm aware of) But concieveably if what I have read is true about the gases mixing to cool the charge, your piston may have been toasted by the EGR. Best thiing to do is, ask for the old part, and buy a vacume tester, and see if you can use the vacume to suck it open, and see how long it stays open. If it won't even suck open, then it's ruined, and you should look for possible tampering of the device. Maybe it carboned closed or somthing too. But from an independently reseached, Yeah it might be possible. Do some reaseach on engine theory and EGR theory. hmmm, why not ask .com or Howitworks.com. Going there now my self!

It'S FRIGGING TRUE!!! All them Little grease Monkies out there telling you to take off the EGR are LIERS!! Leave that BItch on! And make sure it works right!! The Carbon Dioxied is a gas that helps cool the combustion chamber. I've also found this description in manuals. So, although this is hot exaust gas it's a cirtain gas that actualy helps stop pinking and would allow for more advance on the timing in summer months. Science is cool!

I might be wrong, but I have never heard of exhaust gases mixing with fuel. Doesnt make any sense to me at least, but what do I know, Ive only removed emissions on 4 different make/model cars that I have owned. Whats up with one post? Are you someone that works at that shop? If you are just trying to be helpful and arent correlated with the shop Im sorry for being an asshole, but on the same note dont call us all liars that dont know what we are talking about.

To original poster, fuck the egr - you dont need it. Emissions removal is a popular "mod" to a lot of engines, they wouldnt make block off plates or have FAQ write ups on EGR removal if that were the case.

Also, to cool pistons you would want something better than recirculated exhaust gases wouldnt you? And what is the name of that shop, drop the bomb after they fix it and everything is good for sure.
