2 questions about the car...

1.) Should there be a cover over the cams or what not?

and...

2.) About the idling is that a problem? When I first started the car the rpms seemed to sort of drop and then come back it almost seemed to want to stall, but once it seemed to warm up it went away. Is that normal? Thanks...

there should be a cover over the cam. about the idle thingy, id say maybe it need a change of plugs, or maybe a vaccum leak.

Alright I tell them they need to put one on if im going to buy it and also they said they replaced the plugs. How would I check for a vacuum leak? B/c if I can I will have them do it so I dont have to pay for it or is it not really that big of a deal? Sorry for all the questions...

I wouldnt worry too much about about the problems you mentioned. Cam gear cover isnt super important right away. You just dont want anything getting caught in the belt. You can find the covers all over the place. Funky idle seems to be the norm. My car idles wierd before it warms up sometime. Could be something as simple as needing to raise the base idle a little bit (as simple as turning a screw) Pull off the intake and check for shaft play on the turbo. if the car pulls strong and shifts smoothly, id give it a shot at that price. Little bullshit problems are bound to arise down the road. But hey, Thats half the fun isnt it? Plus youve got many people in your area who would be happy to lend you a hand!

Cover over the top of the cams really isn't needed, the bottom near the ground is to keep water and shit outta there, that'd be a good thing.

If it doesn't idle surge all the time, that's a good sign of an easy fix and no bent valves.

An idea would be to do a compression test on the engine. Why not ya know.
