1988 rx7, do I need an engine?
So I went out of town for a week, and left my 1988 rx7 with a 91 engine daily driver on the curbside. When I got back I found my battery dead, so I put a new battery in it. Now when Im cranking it over, it sounds like theres no compression. I put a spoonful of marvel mystery oil in it, and still it sounds like no compression. spinning over waaaay too fast. Is my engine done? anyone with a rotary compression tester want to help me out?

where did you put the oil?
basically you've lost all compression in the motor
pull the egi fuse
crank over it about 20 times in 10 second bursts
put the EGi fuse back in
the engine should start

easy way to check for compression is to just put a reg tester in it and crank it. if the needle bounces you have compression. the needle wont stay so youll need some one else to help. but it does work, ive done it

dude dont even bother getting a tester, pull a plug from each housing, leading plug is better. crank & if you hear even, strong sounding pulses from each rotor then your good. my guess on the turning fast thing is that you've got the wrong battery & it's throwing to much current to the starter, thus spinning it faster. I honestly think it's flooded really bad, in which case the MMO trick will work, or as the above pullling the EGI fuse (electornic gas injection) or letting it sit for a day or 2 w/ the plugs out. Theres no way it just blew sitting there. dont be an idiot and put ATF in the motor to deflood it either please. g/l

iskate2 may not have even flooded his engine, there is usually one or two "sweet spots" where the motor will completely lose compression if it sits
I've had it happen a few times, 10 of the ten second starting bursts seemed to always do it, also premixing may help alleviate this and leave a nice lubricate apex seal to hold the compression better
Zammm watchout on how many time you flood the car, after about 5 floods the plugs tend to get fouled badly, my FD wouldn't start on cold days till I changed out the plugs
