Local dealer replaced 4 engines due to a coolant leak. Lets face it, the renesis motor has not had a stellar performance so far. And with the threat of a recall for 04-06 models to be brought in to have the motors checked, sorry I am not gonna be adding one to my wish list anytime soon.

If they replaced an engine 4 times in a single car I really doubt it was the same issue everytime, sounds more like the owners fault - driving it like a jackass and/or no maintenance.
Also the standard way Mazda dealerships handle rotary engine trouble is they generally just replace it. Almost no one has any training on how to repair or even diagnos any issues with the Renesis at the dealerships.

Better than crappy apex seals.
Just check your fluids and change your oil on time. If you cant do that, you deserve to have your engine blow up.

Not in the same car, the same dealer...

I will agree that the dealers do not have anybody trained on the rotary cars. As they were looking to subcontract my shop for the rotary work they were receiving. When it takes a mechanic 2 days to get a motor out of a FC, then you know they are having problems.

well that makes a bit more sense
4 seperate incidences in a month is still alot for coolant seal issues - I have not heard of anything like that locally but I don't doubt it could happen then
again it depends how the engines were treated by their owners
sounds like they needed some new "mechanics" or maybe some actual ones

I've seen a really nice silver 2005 with about 19k miles for $17,800. Think I could get them to lower the price? It's a dealer.

I have seen those for under $15K with low mileage from dealers.
Used RX-8's are very quickly becoming a bargain.

Yeah I've noticed that. I really wanted one when they first came out, but with a $30-$35k price tag, I'd rather get a G35 or acura TL. I'm probably going to the dealer tomorrow.
