ok thanks guys i just saw a rx7 down the road for me and i stopped and looked at it and was talking to the guys i thinks its a 1987 and its a convertable n/a 5 speed and hes only asking $950 the engine doesent run and the body is in nice shape..he said the car was sitting in his garage for 1 1/2 years but prior to that the car ran fine. he said it has about 150k on the engine and what i was thinking was buying it and rebuilding the engine becasue my friends know how to do it..he was charging up the battery when i was there so maybe thats whats wrong but what do you guys think..i have more than 3 grand to drop into the car and make it all nice..

Sounds like a great project. The 87' is a second generation. Perfect for riding the learning curve of the rotary. My first instinct and the long garage period was the battery and then for crying out lound change out the gas.

At least that's my undersanding of rotary sorcery...

FYI if you ever decide to turbo a NA 2nd gen RX-7 you will need the engine and transmission from a turbo 2nd gen RX-7.
