My friend has a 94 rx7 and he did some work to it and he needs it tuned. He heard about scott from mazsport, but he cant afford to tune the car there anytime soon. Is there anyone else who is experienced with microtech?

Im pretty sure theres got to be someone on rx7club with a set up close enough to his, where he can get a map just to begin with..
I thought Scott wouldnt tune shit unless he did the engine work and the standalone install?

Just ask yourself if it's worth it to get a half-ass tune and risk blowing something up...

BTW: Have you talked to Scott about doing the tuning yet? Has he given you a quote?

Thanks for the replies.
Yes he did talk to Scott. I think it will cost about $700-900. He said that he will street tune it first which will cost about $350. Then, he will rent a dyno and will do the tuning in different sessions. I didnt really get what he was trying to say. He said something like he will be tuning the car until it warms up. Shut off the car and wait for it to cool down and then tune it again. So add the cost of renting the dyno and all the time it takes to tune the car. Thats why i think it costs so much.

I have no idea why Scott would need "diffrent" sessions..
Dyno cost are usally per hour on somethjing like this, then paying the tuner his share.
You should get a real good amount of pulls on a dyno, since he will be tuning it from a computer, its not like he has to go outside and make adjustments on the engine..
Yes cool down time is good, but keep in mind for tunning most shops rent it for an hour,so youd want to make use of that hour
Where and how can you download a map?
Also, i wouldnt recommend that he street tunes the car himself. From what i know, rotaries are very sensetive to fuel and are easy to blow if the car isnt tuned right. But again, it still is outrageous(sp?) to pay close to a grand for tuning.

i wouldnt recommend it either, but a "street" tune isnt much, just enough to get the car running, and not having it run lean..
Its a new rebuild?
Who did it,and why wont they tune it

Actually a lot of tuners like to street tune. Steve Kan himselft has been quoted many times on how it doesn't make any difference in his opinion to street tune or dyno tune. Since in theory on both you're checking the a/f but with one you have a reading of how much power you're making/losing whatever the case may be. I for one, like to dyno tune, and see what the results are. But if he can't afford the tune + dyno, then street tune it. Just find a nice straight "street" to do a dozen third gear pulls.
