All I know is I was catching third gear @ 65 to 70 mph..with a passenger in the car, the car was still new with only 30 miles, so power wiould be more with more of a break in.And without a doubt will do 100 mph in the quarter mile. All the engine needs is a nice intake and a header setup, and you will be right into 13s all day long.

 

this car has the same limitations its always had: way too pollutive for standard emissions controls... which means they have to load it up w/ ample emissions control equipment like Smog pumps and ACV's and extra cats and what not. If this car came w/ a less restrictive exhaust and free flowing intake, i wouldnt be suprised to see this car meet or exceed the car's original rated HP levels.

its obviously cleaner burning than the old 13B's but, its still a rotary and has way more nooks and crannies for unburned hydrocarbons to fester than a normal piston engine.

172 RWHP is waaaaaaaaaay too little for as heavy as the car is... i dont recall what it weighs but i know it sho aint no 2700 lbs like a nicely equipped FC. im willing to bet my FC puts out that much power right now... honestly, the RX8 wasnt at all what i had hoped for... just like how the Chevy Malibu and Impala arent even shells of their former selves... they arent even RWD for christ's sake...they should at least rename them and try not to milk the car's heritage for all its worth.

 

The Rx8 weights 2800 lbs..thats right what a 3rd gen and a 2nd gen Turbo weight.

hey i just got a thing in the mail that says i can go test drive an rx-8 and get a gift soon after...... im goin as soon as possible.... and supposedly the rx8 makes about 235hp opposed to the fd 230hp i think i may stand corrected.. for an n/a its got impressive numbers i think even though they said it made 250hp on the 6-speed. but i think its a stylish family car with decent power.. id definately buy it if i had a family and the money! lol


and quickcivic... high 13's or low 14's is fast for a stock car..... did ur civic come stock with n e thing close to those kind of numbers ? nuff said...

corvette z06's only get mid range 12's stock... is that not fast?

i have a friend that works at mazda on florida and he drove the rx8 and said "its slow down bottom and up top has decent power but the car looks bad ass inside and out".... and he does have a resonably fast car thatz in the 11's so i knew hed give me an accurate response.. well im done peace

The part that made the FD fast was the 200 plus lbs of torque it has..


Well let me say this...

The books rate my MP3 @ 110 hp @ the wheels, and claim a 16.5 ET..The MP3 weights 3100 lbs with me and some gas.

I drove the car bone stock and pulled a 16.04..stock...So am I a awesome driver, better than the magazines guys...I don't think so. If anything they are better @ getting the most out of a test car. So why was I able to pull a 16.04 stock? Thats 1/2 second faster than quoted in every article I can find..So what I am saying is.....The RX8 may be faster with someone else driving..I am not saying I am a good driver.. I was able to get a stock car 1/2 second faster, than a professional driver.....maybe I am in the wrong line of work....

 

Magazine testing of quarter mile rarely includes a hard launch, OR is done on a real drag strip that has traction.

 

i wouldnt say my car is @ exactly 172 RWHP... that would put it pretty damn close to the magical 200 crank HP mark... which im quite sure im not at. I would say im more closer to ~160 RWHP w/ the trap speeds i hit... considering i spun all thru 1st gear on a prepped track.
