Default Going all engine in a BPD8

I think I want to bypass swapping for the BPT engine for now in my 93 Escort GT. Meanwhile, I'd like to go all engine on the BPD8. I'm aware of the broad scope of the question, but given the same task, what would you do?

I'm not sure what you are exactly asking..... Why is this in the Mazda tech?

Me...given the same tast, I would get a better base to work with.

This is in Mazda Tech because it is a Mazda engine. The 90's Escort GT is essentially a Mazda with a Ford emblem.

I'm asking (exactly) how you would get the most out of the BPD8 engine with it remaining naturally aspirated.

what's your budget?

Where will the car be used?

What type of powerband do you you want?

How much has to be done by yourself?

NA BP's can go anywhere from 120 whp to close to 200.....but there's a lot of difference depending on how you answer the above questions.

Hey Pseudo.

Pretty much all of this has to be done by myself. I'm not limited though, I work as a boat mechanic part time during semesters and have access to all their tools/lifts/etc.

I want the car to be street legal, a good auto x with good acceleration in the straightaway, so I would like to get 1/4 mile times down.

My budget is pretty slim and spread out over time since I'm a college student (ie, whenever I have two or three hundred leftover at a time from a tution payment). But, There is always savings, and the project doesn't have to be done soon, but I think bolt on (CAI, headers, etc.) would be best for now and wait to start working with porting, etc. later.

Thanks for any tips.

Let's say hypothetically I wanted to get the 200 whp out of it.

200 whp won't be a fun street motor.

and goto the sites that David's page links off to.

Thanks Pseudo...

Reading that page really makes me wonder about reconsidering Turbocharging.

Any idea (other than Corksport) where to find the IHI RHB5 VJ20?

I gotta say that if you are planning on getting anywhere near 200 hp out of the N/A motor you will spend more than if you went the BPT route. My opinion for you is to just save your money. Have more than you will need to get the engine because little things are going to creep up and you will need a lot of spare cash for all the little stuff.

Epic:

From what I've heard from other Escort owners that have done the swap, they run into a lot of trouble with wiring/engine harness incompatibility. I've tried to find/ask about the actual things that need to be done, but no one has revealed it. Apparently they are all trying to keep it a secret.
