Hopefully everyone else will also and help make this a good event. It feels good to finally have a good get together locally here. I'm tired of putting so many interstate miles on the cars and fighting those rock chips. Please everyone hit the like link for your facebook and get the word out.
Whoa! That's your Pulsar?!?!!! I was so psych'd when I saw it at the USF meet a while back, but it seemed like I was the only one. It can be very lonely owning a car like that (or my XR), but there are those that appreciate 'em. Forget the 'vette owners, and exoti-snobs. I've taken my POS XR to Sarasota Cafe Racer lunches, the Dupont C&C events, etc., and I don't give a crap whatever whoever says.

And I'm with you on having to pedal so damn far all the time to get to a good meet. The Sarasota/Bradenton area seems to have plenty of enthusiasts and cars, but there's no real scene. I've found that very frustrating... in-fighting between groups, snipe-ish politics, the stupidity of youth, etc. I love that there is a cars & coffee event locally now. In fact, I've been dreaming and scheming of starting one for the last year, even contacting some possible locales about it. But as I've got no contacts in the scene, and can't even seem to find a centralized place to reach/contact folks in the area, it's been more of an academic exercise than anything else. Certainly there are folks with tons more experience than me who have tried and failed at these sorts of things.

In any case, I'll definitely try to make it to the next c&c. My XR will surely draw the 'vette owners attention away from your beautiful Pulsar.

In my enthusiasm to post my above response, I missed saying that I think the elitism of "no ricer cars", etc. is complete BS to me. I'm a car and driving enthusiast, so I have an interest all kinds of cars (admittedly some more than others) doing all kinds of stuff. Folks that don't aren't my kinda folks. When I encounter an owner of an enthusiast car (whether it's a Ferrari or a Camaro or a hachi roku) that shows no interest in any other kind of car, I get annoyed. Same for folks that are domestic only, or JDM only, or auto-x only, or drag only, or whatever only. And really, I don't have as much of an interest in looking at yet another unmodified, undriven Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche, etc. I can't identify, they don't inspire me, and at my age, they don't have the same impact anymore. I'd much rather look at somebody's half-done project and witness the process of an enthusiast trying to realize their aspiration. And I'd much rather watch a guy mar the paint on his car hitting a cone at an auto-x than look at the mile deep Ferrari red paint on a row of Modenas.

Perhaps what we do need is a c&c event for the enthusiasts that don't have exotics. Maybe my ideas aren't dead-ends... yet. We'll see...

I can appreciate that this is an exotic show and that is what it's intended to be. Let's try to get this thing going and have a good time. PT I'm interested in being a vendor at the shows if that is possible. I sent you a PM. The comment that I made that started this was just a joke and I was just throwing it out there as fun. Like I said before I'll just bring the evo next meet. Anything I can do to help please let me know.

Why don't you search photos from C&C meets all over the country. The theme is continuously sports, exotic, and unique cars. That's the style of meet. No one is saying we don't appreciate other types of cars, it's just that when there are JDM meets every other night it's nice to have a little something different. I was able to have a friend bring out a white Porsche Carrera GT to the very first meet and the owner opened up his car for everyone to see. If there's something wrong with not modifying a $450,000 one of only 2 white cars in the country then I must be missing something.

And if you ever come to one of these use the ears and eyes that God gave you and notice Vette owners, Ferrari owners, Porsche owners all showing interest in each others' cars.

If you don't like the style of event refrain from exiting your front door. No one is saying you have to be there with a smile on your face. I really don't understand why this is causing a debate...

My car at the Dupont c&c event not so long ago:

See, the thing is, I talk from experience. I've been to plenty of c&c events, and not just in Florida. And I get it. My issue is with those that don't. I find ignorance and arrogance annoying, especially in combination, and especially when it results in exclusion... and I don't care what kind of car they drive. I'm not saying all the participants, organizers, or attendees are like that, but I do enjoy an atmosphere of inclusion much more than one of exclusion, and I think that is the kind of atmosphere that should be encouraged. I'm all for a Carrera GT showing up, though having seen 6 different ones at this point (all at static meets), whether it's white or not, it doesn't grab me as much anymore. And of course he (nor anyone else) doesn't have to modify their car. My comment regarding modification was meant towards the more common, less exotic cars (like vettes, evos, wrx, Camaros, Mustangs, VWs, and even something like a Boxster).

And I must be missing something if there are JDM meets happening every other night locally (SRQ area)! You gotta tell me how I find out about those. But do you seriously expect the kind of folks that would get up early enough to come and enjoy a c&c event would be the kind that would ruin a c&c event?

Like I said, I'll come to the next event... I'll see what the atmosphere is like. But I'll be sure to park across the street, 'cause I wouldn't want to bring anyone's property values down.

You know... I was talking to a friend in Seattle about this today, and nevermind all that crap I said. I'm too busy to be bothered whether an event is inclusive or exclusive, or if there are JDM meets every other night all over the place (though I still don't know where). And I think I've let the lack of cohesiveness locally mislead me into believing that the scene is smaller than it really is. I now suspect the scene here just operates differently than I'm used to or expect... too many years spent in the PNW I suppose.

Anyway, hope to see y'all out there.

Just an update for those interested: Second meet is tomorrow morning 8-10am at Suncoast Porsche. We should have more parking available so bring whatever you want and let's just kill the controversy. Just please be respectful of the property and owners because it is a place of business. Cars started showing up for the June meet at 7:30 so keep that in mind.

Please don't forget to bring in a few canned food donations. Publix/Target/Wal-Mart/Sweetbay all have some for like $0.69/each and every bit helps.

Hope to see some of you guys out there. I'll be the one with the Nikon D90

And here's the Facebook fan page. "Like" it for photo updates and info:
